Gül Kaçmaz Erk received her Bachelor (1994) and Master (1996) degrees in Architecture at Middle East Technical University in Ankara.

 

She got her PhD (2004) in Architectural Design at Istanbul Technical University. She researched for her dissertation entitled "Architectural Space in the Digital Age: Cyberspace, Hyperspace and Exospace in Science Fiction Films" at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia between 2001-2003. She consulted ARCAM for “Turkey Today: Contemporary Turkish Architecture in Turkey and the Netherlands” Exhibition in Amsterdam in 2004. She has been working as a licenced architect in Turkey for several years. She taught Basic Design (undergraduate studio) and The 20th Century History of Architecture and Interiors (undergraduate lecture) at Philadelphia University (2002) and Drawing and Media (master seminar) at Delft University of Technology (2005). Her areas of interest are: architectural space, cinema, digital technologies, science
fiction, architectural design, representation and media, and architectural history and theory. She is currently a freelancer in Amsterdam.
